AKB0048 adalah serial anime bertemakan grup idola Jepang AKB48.^[1] Serial anime ini diproduksi oleh Satelight. Musim pertama ditayangkan dari April 2012 hingga Juli 2012. Musim kedua AKB0048 Next Stage mulai ditayangkan 6 Januari 2013.
Latar cerita di galaksi masa depan ketika kesenian ditetapkan sebagai pelanggaran hukum. Grup idola antarbintang AKB0048 tampil sebagai penerus grup idola legendaris AKB48. Mereka melanjutkan tradisi AKB48, berkeliling dari bintang ke bintang melakukan konser untuk penggemar. Tokoh utama adalah 7 siswa pelatihan Angkatan 77 dan 2 siswa pelatihan Angkatan 75 AKB0048.^[2]
Pencipta dan supervisi adalah Yasushi Akimoto. Produksinya melibatkan tokoh-tokoh kenamaan dalam dunia anime: Toshimichi Ōtsuki bertindak sebagai produser eksekutif; Shōji Kawamori sebagai sutradara kepala dan penulis cerita; Yoshimasa Hiraike sebagai sutradara; desain karakter oleh Risa Ebata.^[3]
Sembilan pengisi suaranya berasal dari anggota AKB48, SKE48, NMB48, dan HKT48 yang dipilih melalui audisi. Dari 200 anggota yang mengikuti audisi tahap pertama disaring hingga 30 anggota.^[4] Audisi tahap akhir menetapkan 9 anggota sebagai pengisi suara ditambah 4 anggota yang diikutsertakan melalui seleksi khusus.^[5]

Synopsis

In the beginning of the 21st century, a world war breaks out over interplanetary travel 

tech. The environment is pretty much destroyed so mankind leaves Earth, settling on other 

planets, and starts Star Calendar 00.

Entertainment and songs become heavily regulated and eventually banned on several planets 

due to their power to move people, but a brave idol group puts on guerrilla performances in 

these systems in the name of a famous act from earlier times that sang to Earth's bitter 

end, AKB48. Famous throughout the galaxy, the group's name is AKB0048.

This story centers around a group of girls from various planets, some where entertainment 

is banned and some, where it is not, striving to become great idols and join AKB0048.

Therefore, they participate in the entrance exam and eventually become undergraduates,
aiming to someday succeed the current members of the group.
